When you move into a new home, there will definitely be areas that need to be fixed up. That applies to the outdoors as well – and it is just as important as the indoors.
If you want to start carrying out outdoor maintenance on a new home, here are five tips that will make it a whole lot easier.
Look for problems with the gutters, vents and pipes
The drainage system has an important role to play, and if it is damaged, blocked, or leaks it could lead to bigger problems in time. That is why you should check all of the gutters, vents and pipes that are outdoors and see if they need to be repaired or replaced.
Clean and check the sliding
Cleaning your sliding and removing any dirt that may have accumulated can help prevent damage in the long term. While you’re at it you should check for any soft spots, cracks or chips – and repair or replace them before the damage gets worse.
Trim the vegetation
You should keep your plants trimmed so that they are at least a foot away from your house. It can help to prevent them from damaging the exterior of your home, or from clogging up the drainage system. Tall plants and trees can be especially troublesome, so be sure to take note of them.
Keep up with cracks in the concrete
If the concrete outside your house starts to crack, you should seal it up as soon as possible. The more that you delay, the greater the damage will be.
Before sealing a crack with epoxy or some other sealant, make it a point to clean it out first so that dirt, debris, and grease doesn’t end up reducing the effectiveness of the repairs.
Touch up the paint as required
Touch up the paint in any bare areas on your external walls that you spot. Keeping up with the paint is important as it will shield your exterior from water damage, and save you both time and money.
